Meeting Al GoreCollecting CO2 data
How can we make sure that we maximize the degrees of freedom that our future will hold? The human civilization has seen a very rapid expansion in the last ten thousand years, with a progressive filling up of every possible ecological niche, and a larger and larger proportion of what we call ‘nature’ being occupied by a technological society.

Just as we cannot afford to build with the techniques used by ancient Romans, which produced long lasting buildings, but which were based as much on their ignorance about the material tolerances and engineering constraints as on what they knew, similarly we cannot blindly build to our societies needs without better understanding the world around us, and how we can coexist with it.

The Climate Crisis, which is today almost universally understood as real, and of human origin, is an example of this conundrum: we need better tools to understand today, and model our world, so that we can act to build a desirable future.

OpenSpime’s technology can be used to gain a bottom-up understanding of how the local climate works, by collecting and aggregating sensor data on CO2 concentrations. This data collection, and visualization is a first step in being able and ask the right questions, from which to gain a clearer picture, and move towards understanding, and action.
