The OpenSpime technology has been in rapid development since the beginning of 2008. Presented first as a preview in March 2008 at the O’Reilly Emerging Technology conference in San Diego, the beta version of the OpenSpime protocol and application development libraries have been made available in June 2008, with the launch of the OpenSpime Developer Network, which garnered the attention of hundreds of developers since.

With the announcement of the first hardware development partnerships in June 2008, the WideTag’s business development started as well.
